Research on reasons for not accepting postpartum family planning in first 48 hours, in a tertiary care hospital

Introduction: Postpartum family planning (PPFP) is an essential service to prevent unwanted pregnancies, keep birth spacing, thus preventing poor maternal, perinatal, and neonatal health outcomes in subsequent pregnancies. Objectives: To identify the reasons for not accepting PPFP actual percentage of first 48 hours as well most preferred method PPFP, interval contraceptive a tertiary care hospital. Methodology: The present study descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted all four obstetric units De Soysa Hospital Women, Colombo 08. Inclusion criteria – Mothers (within after delivery) time from 25th September 2019 until sample size 289 reached. Results: 152 (51.5%) participants accepted PPFP. Only 20 (13.3%) methods during postpartum period. Regarding 53 (37.8%) planned use future (Interval methods), 31 (20.1%) due husband’s disapproval, (12.1%) fear side effects 18 (12.9%) wanted have many children. popular was subdermal implant 82 (57.7%), followed by PPIUD (33.8%) PP- LRT 12 (8.5%) among participants.
